This is a 4-week, 2 hour course to help you explore the ways your early attachment strategies might also be impacting the ways you attach, or struggle to attach, to God.
We all long for the experience of being experienced. And attachment science, at its core, helps us understand what we tend to do when we’re missing connection or in need of regulation.
Internally, even in the first 18 months of our lives, our little selves wonder: Is someone else available when I’m in distress? Will this distress be alleviated? In what ways might I use my agency in distress? The patterns we learned then carry with us into our grown-up relationships, including in our spiritual direction rooms and in our relationship with God.
During these four weeks together, we’ll
Explore the different attachment energies and help you learn to recognize your own.
Discover ways to support both yourself and your directees/significant others in moving toward more security.
Touch on the ways our attachment styles also impact our attachment to God.
Interact around the ways in which we can cultivate a secure attachment space for our directees/significant others.

Taking this class on attachment from Paula has helped me understand my own attachment style and how that style impacts how I show up in the world. As a spiritual director it gives me another way to understand my directees. I find Paula’s model of attachment easy to integrate because I can use my hands/arms to “show” a secure base and safe haven from which to explore and be embraced, experiencing being with another and the Divine.
