What’s included?

Write Your Soul is a 4 week course that includes:
  • 4 online 1.5 hour Zoom classes - meeting on Wednesdays from 1-2:30 PST
  • October 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, 2023
  • Materials and templates to invite you to fresh ways of overhearing your Soul.
  • Some Guided reflections to help you listen more deeply to God, yourself and sense of purpose.

Perhaps You Long to Connect More Deeply...

...with God

You desire to experience the Love and Healing of God more deeply. Maybe you’ve been relating to God for decades, maybe it’s new or maybe it’s changing. Perhaps you have doubts or disillusionment and it feels like you have few spaces where you can process that. You can come as you are.

And perhaps one of the ways you’ve dabbled with, or currently, foster or wrestle with this connection with the Divine is through writing - journaling, crafting poetry, or downloading your rawness or joy onto a page. In this course, we’ll learn ways to sit with what feels true for us in our relationship to God.

...With Your Authentic Self

It feels important to you to be genuine and authentic - for your yes to be yes and your no to be no. But you also realize you get distracted by the busyness of life. Too many times your wants and needs get put on the back burner and you end up going through the motions.

Perhaps you’re longing for some intentional pauses to listen to your life and the sacred story that your heart, mind, soul and body are wanting to tell. In this course, we’ll connect to some different writing practices that help you distill your soul’s longings.

With your God-Given Rhythms

There’s an ache in you to discover, recover or deepen in your sense of how God is inviting you to bring peace, love and healing to the world.

Whether you are a parent, teacher, clergy, or passionate about justice, racial equality or the environment, it feels important to you to be in live embodied in your own unique God-given rhythms.

In this course, our writing exercises will help you listen more deeply to what in you wants to live. We’ll take time and space to sense what God’s fresh invitations are for the ways in which you are to bring your Loving Caring Presence into the world.

What I gained…

Kathy Douglass

When I discovered Paula was offering this course, I was immediately drawn to it. I experience Paula to be so genuine and curious and invested.  I am often on the lookout for ways to gently nudge the writer in me. This course was so much more than a 'writing workshop' - through Paula's guidance, I was invited into new ways of welcoming myself, my soul, my true essence. I was invited to notice, to gently hold whatever came up in the moment for me. Folding this invitation into the spiritual practice of writing offered me a fresh way to consider embodiment. I treasure the tools I was given that will keep me good company as I continue to seek after God, and to seek after my true self.

This is for you if…

You feel stuck going through the motions

You keep trying different things to deepen your connection to God, self and purpose, but they fall flat. Perhaps there’s something in you wanting to have some guidance to help you overhear the richness of your soul.

You want to listen to what your body and emotions are inviting you toward

God created us as people with heart (emotions), soul, mind and body. God did not give us these things to shame us for having them. Listening is more than just to our thoughts and ideas - this course will invite you to begin to listen to the ways your emotion and body are also holding your story.

You’re an internal (or external) processor

It helps you to put pen to paper and process the happenings of your life on a page. Maybe you’ve fallen out of the practice and would like to learn some fresh ways of processing. Or perhaps you are an external processor and you’d like to learn how writing can help you overhear your heart and deepen in your connection to God, self and others.

Week 2 - The Sacred Pathway of Doubt

Doubt, disappointment, discouragement and feeling disoriented are all Doorways to something deeper within you. This week, we'll practice some ways of noticing the ways we are holding the disappointments in our stories... but with a listening and looking for the Sacred Doorways that seem to emerge if we can be with what is discouraging or disappointing us.

Week 3 - Write your Own Psalm

One of the most raw and authentic places to read about a person's embodied experience is in the book of the Psalms. Really, they wrote what feels true for them - the ugly, the praiseworthy, and the confusion of living in a limited, human body longing for so much more.

This week we’ll look at the ways the Psalmists expressed their truth through writing and we'll be invited to write our own Psalm (template provided).

Week 4 - Distilling Your Essence

This week we’ll use a combination of some fresh writing techniques to eavesdrop on our souls. Sometimes rearranging our heart felt sentiments get to the essence of our Essence.

What’s next?

Thank you for participating in Write Your Soul.

I hope through our time together and these exercises that you’ve sensed the “eyes of your heart” being enlightened. There is a very healing way of listening to our Souls through our whole embodied self.

This section contains even more ways to continue listening to your Sacred Story. Remember -you are not a problem to be solved...but a sacred story.

Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.

What if I have to miss a class?

The hope is you can be present to journey with others in this class. But in the chance you have to miss a class, they will be recorded.

If you're going to miss more than 1 class, perhaps this is not the best time to take this.

Do I have to have writing experience to take this class?

You don't. Most of our experiences will be guided by templates and/or free writes (meaning you don't need to edit, have proper grammar or even to use punctuation.)

We will not share our writings - unless you have a sense that it would be helpful to your process.

Anybody at any writing level is welcome.

Do I need a computer?

You do need a way to connect to our Zoom gatherings.

But it's preferable for you to grab an old fashioned pen and paper to do the writing experiences we'll do in class and between classes.

Will this help me write a best seller?

Probably not - but hey, you never know.

This class isn't about how to write or why to write. It is offering you experiences of writing in some fresh ways as a means to listen more deeply to your Soul's Longings.

Am I able to invite my friends?

Yes, please. You might even sense into who in your life helps companion you on your Sacred Journey. Maybe someone with whom you can share what you're discovering.

If you don't want to share, you don't have to. You can perfectly give yourself the gift of this space and time!
