Truth,
like sleep and love,
resents approaches
that are too
intense.
W.H. Auden
The video above is a small clip from something I taught on how to become a person of peace for the Franciscan Spiritual Center in Portland, Oregon. Even though I am speaking about "eavesdropping" on the soul, it really fits well into this whole thing about having unhurried curiosity.
The way we approach what is within matters. So we
Pause
Attend with Affection and
Unhurried Curiosity
And if we want to get to the truth - the kind of truth that sets us free - then we must approach with gentle, unhurried curiosity.
And, if there's something in us that IS approaching intensely, like an inner critic accusing, "You should know better!" - we can pause and say,
"Ah, something in me thinks I should know better."
"I'm sensing something in me that thinks I should know better."
"I'm going to sit with that with unhurried curiosity..."
