Eavesdropping on Soul.mp4

Truth,
like sleep and love,
resents approaches
that are too
intense.
W.H. Auden

The video above is a small clip from something I taught on how to become a person of peace for the Franciscan Spiritual Center in Portland, Oregon. Even though I am speaking about "eavesdropping" on the soul, it really fits well into this whole thing about having unhurried curiosity.

The way we approach what is within matters. So we
  • Pause
  • Attend with Affection and
  • Unhurried Curiosity

And if we want to get to the truth - the kind of truth that sets us free - then we must approach with gentle, unhurried curiosity.

And, if there's something in us that IS approaching intensely, like an inner critic accusing, "You should know better!" - we can pause and say,

  • "Ah, something in me thinks I should know better."
  • "I'm sensing something in me that thinks I should know better."
  • "I'm going to sit with that with unhurried curiosity..."
